MikroTikls [trade name MikroTik®] was founded in 1995 to develop and sell wireless ISP systems. Since then, MikroTikls has developed a complete wireless system which includes 11Mb/s DSSS 2.4GHz radios and also the MikroTik v2 PC router software system. MikroTikls now provides wireless ISP systems for Internet connectivity in many countries around the world - some locations are Kosovo, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Moldova, Albania, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark, Malta and many others. Latvia now has perhaps the largest wireless network based on the ISM band 2.4GHz DSSS system - more than 600 buildings around the country are connected with wireless. Mikrotik's experience in using industry standard PC hardware has developed into the MikroTik v2 PC routing software system that provides extensive stability, controls, and flexibility for all kinds of data interfaces and routing systems on a platform of standard PC parts. Mikrotik RouterOS PC router software system supports various ISP applications from RADIUS modem pools to DS3 backbone circuits.

The beauty of Mikrotik RouterOS lies in its modular structure.  Any off-the-shelf PC or laptop can be turned into a fully-configurable, stable, extensive:

  • Firewall
  • Multi-port router
  • Wireless access point
  • Wireless point-to-point gateway
  • VoIP gateway
  • Bandwidth shaper
  • Dial-In Server
  • Dial-Out Server
  • Traffic logger

.... or practically any other network device, without having to worry about expensive licensing, proprietary network modules and 'standards' and blind support availability.  Since Mikrotik runs on a standard i386 platform, any PC can be turned into a Mikrotik device.
